Gigabyte Letdown

Strengths: Works well as a standard home computer motherboard. Barebones setup is working very well. Fast response from tech support.

Weakness: No Win 7 64bit drivers on CD. Incomplete feature and capacity specs on website and vendor sites. No support for raid arrays greater than 2TB, which is not mentioned anywhere!

Raid limitation is a deal killer. I asked Tech-support about 2TB drives as raid 5 or 10. Tech-support replied: (Quoted text)"Dear customer, Build in software Raid feature has drive capacity limitated below 2TB, Any Raid array over 2TB need to be using hardware Raid ( add on PCI Raid card )." AMD Raid

Strengths: Lots of disk connections.

Weakness: Documentation can be obscure.

Using Microsoft Disk Manager snap-in, make sure you have intialized all drives prior to Raid as GPT (not default MBR) type. MBR type drives will not accept a partition greater than 2 Terabyte. MBR drives will work fine but will not raid. Be sure to have the latest drivers available from AMD. Here is AMD RaidXpert URL: www2.ati.com/relnotes/... After a couple of tries, its a snap. Have fun.

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H Motherboard Review - AMD 890GX
