I bought this for a budget/performance build that I put together around a Gigabyte EP43T-UD3L board, which has DDR3 memory and LGA775 Intel socket. I planned on overclocking, heavily if possible, an inexpensive CPU to avoid the very high Intel pricing as best I could. I bought this for a budget/performance build that I put together around a Gigabyte EP43T-UD3L board, which has DDR3 memory and LGA775 Intel socket. I planned on overclocking, heavily if possible, an inexpensive CPU to avoid the very high Intel pricing as best I could. Installed a PentiumD 930 3.0Ghz dual core, with the factory Intel fansink first, correctly, and saw maybe 55 to 60 degrees Celcius under load with no changes to any bios settings yet. Installed this Rocketfish fansink [which was only a couple bucks more than the stock Intel fansink, BTW] which came with an issue of high quality appearing silver thermal paste, one fan installed, and the hardware to add a second fan if you want to. Installation was a breeze... there were clear assembly diagrams/ instructions provided. After about 3 weeks of experimenting with the potential of this build, which has Gskill PC10666 DDR3 2 X 2048 installed [killer performance for less than 40bucks], I have decided to keep the CPU [which I got for 25bucks] at 4.05 GHz (front side bus 1080MHz, with Vcore bumped up to 1.34V from 1.26) This fansink has kept the CPU, with case fully reassembled, under 40 celsius even with the extra Vcore and clock speed, even after running the Passmark benchmark test 10 times in a row, one after the other, SPECIFICALLY to see how hot I could get that CPU under heavy load at overclock. Idles at 25 to 27 celsius, also at overclock. Regarding noise, When I had first installed it, I fully reassembled the case to make sure it would fit okay (it did) and after a few minutes, had to pull the cover back off (a complete case cover/slide off deal) because I was not able to hear the fan operating, or distinguish any sound over the sound of the PSU fan or case fan. I will never buy another type of fansink for as long as this particular one is available. Unless I win the lotto, and then get struck in the head hard enough to knock all the common sense out of me. My two cents, anyway.
